The Perfect Shot Week 8

This week the team went out to local neighborhoods and schools to ask parents/ children to participate in our study. A total of 9 children were recorded and added to our excel spread sheet.

A script was created to ensure uniformity across different data groups. Additionally,  a script with more detail and an example video was made and sent out via text message to family friends in an attempt to increase our numbers.

Data Script(In Person)

Initial Measurements:

Hand Length:

Hand Width:

Age:

Height:

We are going to measure the distance you can shoot a basketball with the correct form. Please try to imagine a hoop in the distance so there is arc in your shot. *Demonstrate the correct form*. You will shoot the ball three times, after each shot the distance to first impact will be recorded.

Can you guys help me out gather some data please

What is needed:

Measure width of hand (between the hand and the thumb across palm to other side)

Length of hand (Palm side up, from where the wrist meets the hand to end of middle finger)

Height (from the base of the feet to the top of the head)

Age

Have to kids throw a regulation basketball with a jump shot form, tell them to shoot the ball as they would if a hoop is in the distance to promote a natural arc in the shot. Lay a tape measure on the ground from the tip of the toes to the direction of the shot. Record the shot from the side with phone for each iteration. Record the distance  along the tape measure where the first impact occurred. Do three iterations, send data and videos of  each shot

We are using the data for a capstone project to scale sports to younger children in order to promote proper form/ reduce injury. Feel free to ask any questions and thank you for your help.

*Send Example video from previous group

Our Budget was resubmitted with metal landscaping forms (Bender Board) and was approved. Upon material acquisition building for shakedown testing will commence. The bender board will be bent, with pre-determined distances a hole will be made for each age group.

We will need to create an easy way to adjust the radius of the rim without the use of a ladder from the ground. We are using different hose clamp, and clamp designs for inspiration (like the ones shown below)
